Cambelt 807 2.2 Hdi Dw12 Advice On Changing It

Recommended Posts

Bally123

Hi

I need to change the belt on our 807 family wagon, its only done 60K but as its a 2004 model I guess age alone is a good enough reason. I'd really appreciate any advice anyone has, I don't want to make any mistakes but I am sure Peugeot will want serious money to change so needs must.....

I guess a belt and tensioner would be minimum part requirements?

Sure I need to lock the position of cam / pump etc...but are there any other special tools I am going to need?

Cheers Bally

You need to lock the cam yes and the crank at the flywheel iirc. It's only one pulley at the top as the second cam is driven by a chain. I'd recommend changing the water pump too when your in there. One thing to note, is that these engines do break belts and it is near on impossible to get new heads/short motors from peugeot. Ive been there, in that one broke a belt and bent all valves. The injectors are prone to seize into the head and you have to get them out, it normally involves breaking the cam cover and getting them out with a puller to get at the headstuds out to get the head off. I had to wait 6 months on a new head for a customers car as they are supposed to have stopped producing those engines.

In short my advice is don't mess it up or it will cost you. If you are unsure on anything just double check it, or get someone with good mechanical knowledge to help you .

Great advice redtop, thanks

I has read about issues with both the damage caused if it breaks and the problems with injector removal. I notice a kit is available for locking of the cam, etc.... its approx £50-60 quid nut I have not bothered with these in the past on other engines, but maybe worth getting one this time, what do you think?

Good call on the water pump, I hadn't considered that.

Cheers Bally

I just used the locking kit that was in the garage service tools for the hdi engines. As long as you mark everything right I don't see why you should need an big expensive locking kit. If you can't get an allen key to get in and lock the flywheel, I know it's crude but a bit of conifeur sp brake pipe bent into a shape that fits, will lock the flywheel. Ive never had to do that myself, but have seen it done before. Just turn the engine over manually a few times if you want to double check. One brand I do recommend for decent parts is Klann a german company. Thats the brand of puller that I used to remove the injectors. 3 of them normally move but the one closest to the cambelt the puller normally cracks the casing.
