Hand Tighten Oil Filter

Just done an oil change... (Magnatec 10 - 40 ) Ive lubed it up and tightened by hand will this be ok or should i use a wrench?

Nooooo don't tighten it with a wrench! You'll never get it off! :D

that happened to me before and i had to call my uncle and he turned up with some special tools to get it off hell of a job lol

I usually nip it up just a little more using a strap wrench. Nothing drastic, just that little bit tighter than hand tight.

most filters will be marked each quarter of a turn.

 

lightly oil the seal, spin it on till the seal touches, then 3/4 of a turn :)

Filters usually have installation instructions on them or on the box....but usually it's as Welshpug says.

 

That said, did that with one last year & noticed it was leaking slightly, so needed a bit more than 3/4 of a turn. So....always check for leaks, don't fit & forget!

I wouldn't trust fitting it that way, its got to be QT by hand.

As tight as I can get it with a clean latex (ooh err missus) glove on. None have ever leaked and it means they come off again without the BFI technique.
