Sounds like you need a new rear light sensor.

The sensor works by stopping the light coming on when not in reverse gear all the time, then when you use reverse gear

the sensor stops working so the lights will work when reversing.

AFAIK the sensor is at the front top part of the box with two wires coming out from it, i cannot remember the colours of them.

Hope this helps.

with this and your cutting out problem are you sure you don't have an issue with dampness in the engine bay?

hi all,

the reverse light seems to stay on when it is wet weather. Does anyone know where the wiring connectors are situated?? Also where exactly that sensor is?? Top part at front doesnt really ring a bell for me.

If you look around at the top of the gearbox, there will be a sensor plug with 2 wires coming out of it, cream in colour usually. There will

be wires coming out of it and they are the only electrical wires attached/linked to the gearbox its self, apart from the earth one that is a thick

single electrical wire. The sensor screws out after you have carefully pulled the wires out of the sensor.

Or it could have one or both the wires slightly coming out and water has got in somehow.

Take a good look around at the gear box.

No not underneath, at the top of engine to the right side/ near side of car, you should easily spot the sensor and wires with a good

torch.

no wonder I couldt see a blooming thing just then. Weather and light permitting I'll have another look. Saw a couple of plugs but dismissed them. any recommendations on removing any bits to get a better view/access?

thanks

might check fusebox in case it has worked loose.

Does the light stay on if the fuse is blown? although I don't think it has blown because the rev counter is on the same circuit no? that still works.

If there is any thing wrong with the sensor/wires/fuse then it will stay on for good till it has been rectified.

It would help if you removed the air filter pipes that go towards the manifold on top of the engine above the

gearbox area. As said before the sensor plug should be a cream colour, which as far as i know 1 green/ 1 purple wire coming out of it.

Please don't quote me on the colours as its been a while since i replaced my reverse sensor plug.

If the fuse had gone the light would not come on at all!

I am happy to have a look if you want "butt" drop me a pm.

Just to update this, I had a look and it was the switch.I did not have one, as the one I had from a be3 box was shorter. Would it have worked anyway?
