Engine Codes

Recommended Posts

Just a quick one, why do Peugeot / Citroen engines have 2 engine codes, ie XU9 and D6B

Im thinking that the XU9 part is actual engine and the D6B part relates to the particular model its fitted to to point out that there is slight variations to meet that models specs, ie power steering, 8v/16v etc etc

Can someone please confirm!?

Best Regards

Simon

ps. sorry if this is in the wrong section, wasnt too sure

First two letters relate to the series. Number relates to capacity.

Also you've missed out there is another part to the code. For example XU9J4

The J relates to it being injection and 4 is number of valves per cylinder.

Last bit relates to the specifics to that variant of engine. i.e. XU9J2A

The D6B bit relates to the head specifically. Unsure what other heads there are about tbh, or what means what of that code!

Ah ok a little light shed, thanks

In that case do you reckon you can convert the following:

XUD9Y - Peugeot 205 1.9 TD

XUD9TF - Citroen Xantia 1.9 TD

Obviously they both PSA engines (XU), Diesel (D) and 1.9 (9) but what does the "Y" and "TF" stand for in each?

Many Thanks

Simon

They refer to the variants of that particular engine, usually with the diesel engines T signifies a Turbo engine, the last numbers I don't know the significance of but the Fuelling, Turbo and EGR systems vary with the engine codes.

to my knowledge the 1.9 Turbo was never fitted to the 205, only the 1.8D N/A, 1.8DT, and very late 1.9 D N/A.

You find differences in the 1.9 td specifically as there are different variants for turbo make, intercooler type and position and also a difference in oil coolers. Dont ask me what the differences are as usch but all the engines do interchange. Its just ancilleries that differ.

Try all of these:

Another thing that could help you is looking through the diesel variants of the correct year in Miamistu's Online Parts catalogue. That way you can check compatibility of items across models.
