Oil Temperature Gauge Fault

Recommended Posts

treesimon

Just recently on my car when i accelerate above 4-5k. The oil temp gauge declines as im accelerating when i lift off the gauge rises again.

If i go on and off the throttle i can make it dance. At low revs with the oil warm it hold as it should. Does any one know what could cause this?

It's either just a dodgy connection (most likely at the sender in the sump) or :) ..you have very thin oil sloshing around in your sump.

Most likely the first one.

If I can make a suggestion: you should just clarify what engine, age and capacity you're talking about. Stating what management you have helps out too. I only say this because of the starter motor fault you have too, which with this thread makes me think you have a bit of a wiring issue. Eeek.

So what engine/car model is it?

The car is a 1990 G reg phase 1.5, 1.9 gti With LE2 jetronic.

The starter motor fault has been with the car some time but the oil temp fault has just began.

I fitted a new loom like for like same part no. It was in known good condition also got my mate a qualified electrician to check it out and removed the brown multiplug sat over the gearbox.

I will replace the oil very soon to see if the problem mprove and put a spare sender units in at the same time.

woodsy

Check the wire going to temp switch aswell as these are very thin and go brittle with age.
