What Jets And Choke For 45's (mi16)

Hi all, just been validated so 1st post... Hope all your 205's are runnig well and kicking everything else to the curb!!!

I have just purchased my 10th 205 GTi and my 2nd Mi16v conversion, already done by the previous owner and to be granted it looks like a good job.

It hasn't been rolling roaded yet but pulls like a train in the higher revs due to a BE3 (1.6) g'box and some moody cams (not sure on profile).

The Exhaust is a bit of a problem as it is a standard Mi manifold onto standard 1.9 downpipe (I think the one with the split centrally) onto a Group N straight through to what looks like a standard back box and the previous owner has welded a jetex box in the centre, maybe for a slightly quieter ride!!

My question: is this the best combination of exhaust as my last Mi had a full magnex system (stainless)..

Also it fires up and runs well but idle is lumpy (due to the cams) but is impossible to drive normally.. Is this due to the carbs being out of balance or the cams again or the exhaust or a combination of the whole lot.. sorry, when I say lumpy, I mean you can't just put rest your foot on the throttle and cruise along it wants/needs to be accelerating all the time..

Sorry again for being vague.. any help greatly appreciated..

Scott..

Get it onto a rolling road and set up by some-one who knows what they are doing, you can pants around cahnging this and that at hoime yourself but never get it right,

rolling road tune money very well spent.

Thanks Tony, I have spoken to many different people in the know and have decided that a couple of hours including a rolling road session is what she needs, so filling the tank and giving her to B D Engineering (weber dealer) in Sittingbourne Kent..

I am now thinking that she needs the 4-2-1 exhaust that Miles offers before we go, any thoughts, from anyone, on this and also the best system to put on from manifold/downpipe back.. at the mo it would just be the group N straight through that I have fitted with standard back box, does she need larger diameter to breathe better??

Any comments greatly appreciated, thanks again,

I'm a fan of 4-2-1 systems myself, but apparently they really only make a noticable difference when used to replace the crappy 2.0 Mi16/S16 iron block cast manifolds; the 1.9 Mi tuned 8-1 manifold is actually pretty good.

I'll do a back to back test at some point just for laughs.

As for the rest of your system, look at Batfink's recent thread as it discusses optimum system diameters.

Thanks for the good reply ref the exhaust, sorry for the late thanks but I've been out the country..

I thought that the 8 valve downpipe (with the split) restricted the flow??!!

I do have the 1.9 (old block) Mi so again any help would be cool...
