Anyone Know Their Way Round A Hdi?

Recommended Posts

Sorry, not 205 related!

Wife's Picasso ('04 2.0HDi) has developed an occasional hesitance when pulling away. It just sometimes doesn't want to pick up from idle for a second or two and then (if it hasn't stalled by then) suddenly picks up and revs and shoots away.

She said it had stalled a couple of times lately and then I drove it on Sunday and it dit it once or twice then too, so she's not making it up.

Is there anything I can look at before I send her off to be fleeced at the stealers??

Is there anything to lubricate on the throttle linkage or anything??

There isn't a throttle per-se on HDi's - the throttle cable just turns a throttle potentiometer, which the ECU uses to determine how much fuel to inject. Might be worth checking the potentiometer with a multimeter and check that the resistance increases smoothly and progressively as you open the throttle - if it doesn't, or there is a dead-spot, that would potentially cause the issue you're seeing.

Had a feeling that might be the case.

* Note to self to take multimeter in to work tomorrow to see if one our sparkies can solder the end back on one of the leads that I broke last time I used it. :)

Thanks Anthony

If the throttle pot is disconnected it will cause an ECU fault. Mine had if'y wiring, and it kept causing an ECU fault.

Mad.
