Next Stage Mod?

Recommended Posts

Pazzapug

Hi,

Im in between whether to convert to carbs as iv heard positive and negative comments on them.

If i didnt go for carbs/boddies etc what would be the next decent engine mod?? My head has been skimmed already and currently running at 118hp @ the wheels(139hp@flywheel),

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chris

Standalone what? Or even where? In a field? :P

Some people's opinions are that carbs should be melted as scrap. I would tend to agree, UNLESS, you only have them as a choice for some kind of motorsport based on regulations and/or you don't intend to have mappable fuel (and ignition) management.

If you're hungry for both power and driveability - and you can afford it - lose the distributor and get proper management, possibly moving onto a better inlet and fuelling set-up, and maybe throttle bodies in the future.

The principle (my answer) would be the same for any engine, although as said, it would be useful if you gave us more information.

Carbs are brilliant when set-up properly. The problem is that barely anyone has the knowledge or just patience to set them up properly these days.

It's a turbo'd lump with bigger injectors and standalone management, but only putting out 139bhp :) What is it? A 1.1 8v?

It's one thing to keep things simple, but quite another to provide so little detail as to be down right cryptic :P What a strange topic.

Think you've all got the wrong end of the stick, the OP didn't make the comment about turbo, injectors and standalone management, that was a 'suggestion' (slightly tongue-in-cheek I suspect) of what the 'next stage' could be...

Nah just GLP as usual :)

But carbs are excellent, I have to disagree with Sarty on this one. Once setup they are second only to bodies and injectors.

You can even swith to mappable ignition with the carbs. R1 carbs are a great and cheap upgrade.

Yeah, dunno how I managed to get mixed up, but I thought it was the OP replying about the turbo :) Oops.

injection always better than carb as it easier to setup

Sorry, but just not true, carbs are very easy to setup if you know what you are doing, just as easy as setting up injection.

In some respects carbs can be easier to setup on the road.
