Skip Brownn Roadspeed Cam Specs?

Recommended Posts

martyn180

Hi

I have a Skip Brown Roadspeed Cam, and a Reground cam to piper 270 cam spec already in a ported head all sitting in the garage.

I have been told that the cams are actually the same, although skip brown engines are known to get 160 out of ther 1.9gti engines, and 'other' get 140-145 bhp on standard indution/exhaust.

I know the enegine rebuild/head at SBC will go towards the output figures, but just wondered do I go to the hassle of changing the cam, reshimming to the SBC cam if its just the same.

Even if its a bit extra, I am happy to do it as eveything sitting in the garage waiting to be cleaned.

Also the sbc cam will be 'new originally' and not reground so may be better tolerances there as well.

Cheers for input

Get a DTI and a protractor and measure both cams. Then you will know for sure what you have.

As said you'll have to measure it as I doubt they will give you too much info, From a couple of SBC engine they seem to make around 145bhp on the std injection.
