Couple Of Mi16 Questions

Recommended Posts

Moz_Goodwood

hi all i just need to clear up a couple of things before i get the bits i need to complete my conversion my engine is out of a 1992 peugeot 405 2wd (1.9 mi16)

1) i need a loom and ecu, does it matter if its 2 or 3 row??? ive heard the 3 row is better but whats the difference? and will i be allright with a 3 row?

2) are the afms compatible of a citreon peugeot engines? and how many different types are there? does it matter which goes on which engine and is one better than the other?

3) ive got a power steering pump for it, will the hoses off my 1992 309 gti fit the pump?

4) i need a clutch kit for it (im keeping the 1.9 gti gearbox) does anyone have a part number for the correct kit?

5) the engine was on jenvy throttle bodies before i got it so what else will i need? dizzy? coil? etc, ive got the inlet manifold and throttle body

cheers all i know its alot of questions but i want to get my first conversion finally finished

Here's one, two and five (added in edit) for ya.

3-row ECU is better. You want one with part number last 3 digits 354 or 355, but you'll need to install a knock sensor. (It doesn't need a Lambda sensor).

Have a look at PeterT's web site here. Naturally you'll need a 3-row ECU loom to go with it.

There's a specific AFM for the Mi16 (1.9 - 2 or 3 row), but it is fitted on other makes. Part number ends in 202. It's also on these cars:

Alfa:

75 2 litre 'Twin-Spark' 88-92

155 1.7/1.8/2 litre 92 on

164 2 litre 'Twin-Spark' 87-92

Spider 2 litre 90-94

Vauxhall/Opel:

Ascona 2 litre 8 Valve 86-88

Astra GTE 2 litre 8 Valve 89 on

Carlton 2 litre 8 Valve 87 on

Cavalier 2 litre 8 Valve 87-90

Frontera Sport 2 litre 91 on

You'll need the things you said plus ignition amp which ends in 123, which IS the same module as most other Pugs and Citroens you're no doubt thinking of. Don't forget your HT leads and a crank angle sensor on the gearbox and ECU coolant temp sensor (both the same as other PSAs IIRC).

Miles

8v 205 Motronics use the same AFM too

Power Steering pipes will needed to be modded or you can just buy the one I have ready to fit from a 205 Derv.

Loom wise, I tend to favour the 2 row, Less wires so makes for a neater install and on a std engine I doubt you;ll notice any differance at all.

You will need a Dizzy Cap, Rotor Arm & Base plate and coil that mount on the inlet manifold, the coil is the same base unit as the late 205 GTi's but the mounting is different

Clutch, No idea but ask for a BX16v one

I nearly messaged him as I squinted to see the ECU number, and it doesn't look like any of the numbers for 3-rows ECUs I know about:

0 261 200 158/161/167/354/355

It needs checking before bidding/buying that one IMO.

I msged him and he says its 218 and I cant find reference to that any where. So now I've asked what car it came from....

Well if ATP Electronics' listing is accurate:

405 Mi16 2 litre 16 Valve 93 on

Bosch Motronic

MP3.2 0 261 200 218

So from an iron block 1998cc Mi16, which would be used to running sequential ignition and injection, a knock sensor and an O2 sensor (and ACAV inlet) too I would say.

yeah, I'd say that listing is accurate, the 306 S16 uses same engine and ecu. (as does the early 2.0 16v Xantia, and the zx16v)
