Squeaky Steering Column

Recommended Posts

lemmingzappa

When I turn the wheel it makes a squeaking sound, and occasionally a metallic grating sound. Does it need lubricating somewhere on the column ?

If so, what should I use ?

Is the noise inside or outside the car?

There are bearings in the column below the stalks but there is also the two u/j's & suspension top mount bearings can can dry out & start sqeaking.

Graham.

Try loosening off the 4 bolts concealed under the lower dash plastic, pull the wheel towards you then do the bolts back up.

I had a similar problem and it solved it :)

You have a choice of the bearings inside the column or the u/j at the bottom of it where it connects to the intermediate shaft inside the car.
