Bit Of Plastic Sucked Through Inlet Into Engine, Will It Be Ok?

Recommended Posts

The missus's Clio 2 1.4 16v is misfiring so I thought I'd take a look, noticed a pipe wrapped in insulation tape that goes to the throttle body So probably some sort of vacuum hose. Upon pulling the pipe out of the housing a piece of plastic snapped off and went into the engine making a nasty knock and it stalled. I then thought it's only a bit of plastic what damage can it do so restarted the engine and revved the nollocks off it, the noise cleared up, it still misfires and swiftly went inside and told her I couldn't fix it!! Any chance I've knackered anything (other than the silly fragile hose which will probably cost me 4 grand from Renault)

if its jammed a valve youre in trouble. especially if its jammed open enough for a piston to clip it.

I don't think the 'rev the tits off it' approach is an approved technique.

Nice try though; and nice bluff to the missus too. ;)

Sounds like head off time. :)

I 'think/hope' I may have been lucky as it doesn't run any worse than it did before I got my fat fingers on it, but i'll get my mate to look at it, is a compression test the way to go to check for damage? The plastic was probably 4mm x 4mm and 1 mm thick

if its no worse than before then maybe youve got away with it. it might have propped a valve open a smidge causing it to rev away up then blew through returning it to normal.

fingers crossed anyway lol. compression test should tell I guess. If the valve is bent the cyl wont hold compression.

they are really terrible for coilpacks.... if its the coil over plug type.... try unplugging the multiplugs on't coils to chase the misfire about if possible.... hopefully the valve kicked the s*it outta the plastic and its ok!!!
