206 Misfiring, Can Anyone Diagnose?

Recommended Posts

Atari Boy

I know these are impossible threads as diagnosing via a forum is somewhat tricky but I will ask never the less.

206 1.4 (TU3JP?) 2000 X, daughters car and it seems to have developed a misfire; neither she nor I am mechanical experts so forgive us. She has just topped up the oil and now is seems to misfiring, oil level is still within the top and bottom on the dipstick.

There is an orange light now flashing on the top right of the dash which looks a bit like it might be the emissions warning but I can’t find the handbook to be certain.

Before I get a grown up to look at it is there anything obvious to look for?

Before the oil top up it was running fine so I am thinking that they may be connected, but what do I know?

Many thanks.

Coil packs are common yes but so are injectors. If you can get a decent mechanic with a good diagnostic machine they should be able to sort it out. I recon it is either the coil or an injector. Get a multimeter and measure the resistance [which is in ohms] between the 2 pins on each injector. If one is different to the other 3 then that is more than likely a duff injector and I think a new one from pug is around £125 iirc but that was away back 1 1/2 years ago.

Thanks chaps, if you find a coil pack that would be great, thanks Ryan.

Series of 206 with Sagem electronics are particularly affected with this misfiring/uneven running problems :)

10 points to Redtop, I had the RAC look it today and after they fitted a new coilpack and nothing improved they linked up to the diagnostics and put blame at number three injector.

Thanks for your help eveyone.

Well, in the end it was not the coil pack nor injectors. It was the head gasket instead.

Common malfunction on the TU engines as well :) been fixing a few TU engines with blown/leaky head gaskets and most of them seem to fail on the same area , i.e. the elastomer "Vitone" element which is pressed in the head gasket ..

maby she has a secret talent we are yet to witness? they are common though headgaskets on the 1.4 8valve block i belive they are the same as the 306 1.4 blocks and i have had 2 of those both ending in headgasket failure if i remember correctly.
