Je 85mm Forged Pistons

Recommended Posts

whizzer71

Hi guys will MI liners go to 85mm and still be reliable in a charged application, Have 4 x 85 JE forged pistons out of that engine I stripped and wondered what application they would be suitable for ??.

Can add photos of said pistons but will prob be a couple of weeks

<_<

The liners are usually too thin at the base and fracture, so it really would want some one offs making and the block modifying suitable to take the slightly larger liner OD's

Bit of a non-starter then on the cost front, ah well nothing ventured nothing gained.

Dont know what they are supposed to be for ?

If the pistons are good, it would be a shame to waste them.

There surely must be a way, to get some custom liners made to accommodate them?

This would enable you to {a} use them, {b} run a nice CR and lairy cam and {c} take advantage of the weight saving of not using and iron block.

88mm (stroke) x 85mm (bore) = 1998cc alloy block engine. :)

Displacement of an S16 but 16kg lighter. Add higher CR and a good cam and I reckon that's 185+bhp.

Remember that if you do this, the liners should be not only made to give the correct 3thou protrusion, but also be made to sit square in the block as the liner seats aren't always square with the face of the block.

It might be worth the investment. Could be a very nice engine.

engine killer

I am also using the JE 85mm forged piston. I cannot remember where i got my overbored liners from but iirc PugSpare did stock them. Also, the liners I have are a tad shorter so they didn't sit perfectly in the block. Skimmed the cylinder block a bit to match was the solution.

He has pistons; he wants liners. Or is that what you meant?
