Xu10j4 (s16) & J4rs (gti6) Crank Alternator Pulleys

Recommended Posts

I have one of the lightweight alloy crank pulleys on my GTI6 and want to fit one to an S16 engine.

If I get another one will it fit? Is the GTI6 crank the same as the 2.0 Mi16/S16 crank, and are pitches, cambelt cover clearances etc the same?

A simple part number check would suffice, but I have no access to GTI6 part numbers.

EDIT:

Might as well add the part nos. I do have:

XU9J4 Crank Pulley = 0515 E9

XU10J4 = 0515 G6

XU10J4RS = ???? ??

BTW the 'timing pinions' (the toothed wheel on the crank that drives the cambelt) for the top two are the same part number.

I have seen somewhere mentioned before on here that they were the same, but one person was saying they'd fit and Miles was saying another...

So, not sure.....

Yes it's Miles that said the pitch was different, but I'm unsure (as I didn't ask) whether he means XU9 to XU10, not 10J4 to 10J4RS.

the Mi16's (both) have an Auxillary pulley that bolts to the main crank sprocket by 4 M8 bolts, the XU7JP4/10J4R and RS sit on the end of the crank and are secured by the crank bolt.

the timing between the Mi16 and other 16v XU engines is half a tooth different on the bottom pulley as well.

I have a S16 pulley your welcome to when you get the bonnets.

Some carefully drilled holes should do the trick :D

OK thanks Mei. Detailed as ever.

So does anyone make/sell a lightweight auxilliary crank pulley suitable for either variant of the Mi engine please?* I would be interested in buying 4.

Carl (Mechanicalrepairs) said he'd do a run of 5 if there was enough demand, so if someone else doesn't make/supply these for Mi engines already, would someone want pulley number 5 off me for their Mi?

Tom F>

You or your colleague made some pulleys up recently didn't you, and in M@tt's thread you said he bought some material recently to make a pulley for his supercharger. Is this something you could do?

*BTW it seems the 8-valve crank pulleys are different again, being 0515 94, because I know people already supply these. :D

EDIT: Thanks Paul. Will take you up on that, even if I just use it as a pattern.

Miles supplies the Mi16 ones in alloy, possibly the gti6 ones by now too, if not Rich Walker can supply them (the gti6 ones that is)

Miles does do them was going to get one a while back

I must have misunderstood him then, because I asked for one to be fitted and he said he didn't do one for the S16.

That was really the point of the thread, because what I'm guessing is that Miles does supply/fit XU9J4 (1.9) alloy pulleys, but not 2.0 ones of any kind.

I'm confused.

Above it shows that the XU9 and XU10 pulleys (all the way up to and including GTI6) are all different. So if Miles just does XU9 then it makes sense why I need to source an alloy pulley for the XU10J4 from elsewhere.

He might not stock them anymore?? As said you could put the cam pulley on the crank from an GTi-6 then use the bottom pulley, then you need verniers on top to dial out the 7deg retarded you'd have, plus it's much lighter than the Mi/s16 lump-o-iron- bottom pulley aiding in your quest for weight reduction (not to mention the verniers are a fair whack lighter than cast ones)

The pullies are a different pitch from the Mi16 ones from the engine and hense why the Mi16 one's donlt line up, I can get some made but would need 5 order's as they move very slowly

But Jame's method is fine but as he's said you need some adjustable pullies up top

I think Sarty is referring to the Alternator pulley, at least that is the one he asked me to get priced up for him.

That is correct. It says it in the title  .

I only want the lightweight auxilliary or alternator pulley, suitable for a 2.0 Mi16/S16 engine; in fact I'd like 3off for 2.0 litre engines and 1off for a 1.9 litre lump.

Unless I'm missing something, there is no need to be talking about timing pinions or any of that mullarkey to do with the cambelt. Just the pulley that bolts to the end of the crank, it seems as Welshpug says (and as I remember on a 1.9 Mi) with 4 bolts.

Someone help poor old annoying me.

Do you know is there a difference between 2.0 and 1.9mi16 pulley, because they have different part codes?

My S16 split the pulley just couple of days ago. I´m in bit of a hurry to replace it as S16 is(was) my only running car at the moment. If 1.9 pulley fits then I´ll buy one of those, alloy or OE, what ever I can find first. XU10J4 is such a rare motor in Finland that they are impossible find at breakers.

Did you order any extra pieces? I found one used S16 auxiliary pulley, bought and assembled it. Unfortunately that one didn't have very long life in my car. The damn pulley split when me and my girlfriend were heading for a holiday in Stockholm. She wasn't to happy... Fortunately it was along a bus route and we made to port in time, thanks to public transport.

Pulley wasn't probably the cause but the consequence of something else. Car started jerking and engine lost power and after that alternator light lit.

Anyways I'm looking for an auxiliary pulley... again.

Does the crank pulley of the S16,Mi16 and GTI6 all have the same diameter?
