Grp Bootlid Suitable For Road Use?

or is that a stupid suggestion?

mainly i ask because due to a rear end shunt i have got a tatty old white bootlid on my green car so am at some point going to need to find a nice tidy boot to paint up. but since i spoted that shenpar do grp hatches for about £120 delivered, i could be swayed!

i'm just not sure how much structural rigidity/safety i would loose.

would it be safe without a cage?

would it flap/rattle to buggery?

are shenpar ones any good

is it a silly idea?

why not ask shenpar for there views?

I have a shenpar one on my road rally car

 

a few things to note if using on a road car

 

the shenpar ones don't have mounting points , so you will have to fabricate something for the hinges

They don't have a locking mechanism , so lockable bonnet pins are an option .

Mine doesn't flap or rattle , but i did replace the std hatch rubber seal for one with a longer sealing section , as the shenpar ones are single skin

 

Structural rigidity , don't really know on that one , as mine already has the cage

 

Also you will probably need to fit a polycarb rear screen
