Warning - Battery Terminals And Clicking Starters And Poo Performance

Recommended Posts

kyepan

When you next have a clicking starter motor issue, make sure your battery terminals are all on tight (ie you cannot move them by hand) as this can (and does) lead to the starter motor clicking.

The reason for this as i understand it is.

When the large ammount of current to turn the starter tries to flow through the s*ite connection there is not enough decent contact for the volume of electrons to flow, you'll get the voltage, but not the ampage.

This will also make your car run like a bag of s*ite, it probably won't start when hot.

Reason i found this out is i swapped back to an old battery with pap terminals, the contact on both terminals was poor, and as a result, it failed to start with the clicking solonoid several times, the starter turned slowly, and the engine performance was significantly poorer.

If you have been reading my previous posts you'll know that i've both rewired the solonoid with a high current direct feed and fitted a starter button, so before any starter motor related comments start popping up, i can assure you it's solid.

Swapping back to the good terminal battery, and securing the terminals cured the issues.

J

So does this mean that all of your problems were due to the battery terminals? Or is this just just a slight diversion in the ongoing saga? :(

Lol,

Ive still got this sometimes and i have a brand new starter.

What you will find is that you maybe have to bodge it to the relay, ie more power.
