Drive Shaft Setups

Recommended Posts

zebedy101

right the time has come for me to start thinking drive shafts for my gti6 conversion and im just wondering what everyone is using?

could i use gti6 driveshafts or would i need to upgrade to 309 wishbones?

are 1.9 driveshafts good enough to take the extra power and will the fit ok?

am i right in thinking 1.6 drive shafts are out of the question as im using gti6 hubs and brakes?

many thanks for any help.

1.9 ones are fine, if using '6 hubs & brakes then you'll at least need them, but 306 ones don't fit!

Driveshafts from a motor factors should be fine imo. Preferably GKN ones if possible.

As you may have seen from my recent posts I got 1.9 GKN shafts for my '6' conversion (190bhp) and one snapped off at the spider and the other was chucking out grease on the first track day and a couple of other people seem to have had similar problems.

Maybe we were just unlucky or maybe GKN aren't so good anymore - the dealer is swapping them FOC, but for a different make so it will be interesting to see how long they last!
