Tappy Mi16

Hi all

got a bit of an issue. cars benn very slightly tappy up untill yesterday where it has sudenly got very loud.

Probably mostly my own fault as let the oil run down to much by accident

Had to put 3 1/2 liters of oil in yesterday to top it up but stll tappy. Someone mentioned that the hydraulic lifters might bit sticky?

Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

I had this on mine a while ago and although i replaced them you could possibly try some oil treatment from wynns that is quite good for hydraulic

tappets.Failing that remove and strip and clean should make them ok again as new ones arent that cheap.

3.5 litres to top up?

You might've buggered something.

Noise definately from the top end?

Have a look at my thread for the fun I'm having with tappets. I've got 35 and I'm still struggling to get a decent set in the car, Think I might of cracked it now though!

One thing I have read is when the oil gets low they can drain and thus take a while to pump back up. How long have you run it since you topped the oil up?

My Mi has been sat for 4 months, started it last week and it sounded like a little gremlin with a hammer drill was trying to escape from the head. After the first spirited drive it went away, surely putting 3 + litres in meant there was only 1-1.5 in there? Can't have done any good.

Bloody hell Graham, 3.5 litres?! Hopefully its just the lifters draining where they have had so little oil. What oil filter are you using?

Dan, the oil and filter were changed last month, using the standard peugeot filter along with the Castrol High mileage 15/40 oil

its only been run about 60 miles since topping up the oil so may not of had time to get back round the engine?

Jrod, this is what i was thinking may have happened. think i'll pick up some valve cleaner/conditioner or something and run that through
