Gearbox On Correct ?!

Recommended Posts

Silky

I put the gearbox on last weekend and this weekend I got the clutch cable on and also clipped on the gear selector rods.

While sitting in the car and just seeing if things move ok. I find that the clutch pedal goes down all the way but it doesn't seem as though the gearstick goes into each gear far enough, it sort of feels as though it's got a quickshift on it but I have checked and it doesn't look like it.

Could it be a problem with the way I have put the box on ?

The engine doesn't run yet so no proper way to check

Have you made sure the rods are on right way round.

Make sure the linkage rods are on correctly, maybe just need the lengths adjusting? Also has this gearbox been in the car before or is it a change (eg Be1 to Be3?). I've recently changed Be1 to Be3 and after a lot of fiddling around it felt as though it was going into gear but wasn't going into 5th easily or reverse at all. Reason - the reverse light switches are different lengths on some for sifferent looms and I'd swapped them over  We dismantled the box before the problem was found!

I think there was a BE1 box on this engine before, though is a BE3 now

Not sure on the rods, they look correct to me though will check them

Presuming you didn't have the engine running, sometimes they won't just slot in.

If you didn't have it running, then something's clearly amiss.

Car is a Phase 2, engine was in a Phase 1 running a BE1 box.

Engine now has a BE3 box.

Clutch pedal is original P2 item

Also can you find gears by moving the arms that go into the box instead of trying via the linkage?

I got the box from Simes so I expect it to be absolutely fine, will try amending the length of the rods a little
