Uprated/high Torque Starter Motors

Recommended Posts

Are uprated starter motors really worth the extra money? I seem to be having problems with my gti6 engine eating them for breakfast and burning out the clutches on them. Are Brise any good and are there any other manufacturers that anyone would reccomend?

Any help much appreciated

These are listed as the starter motors for 205 Diesels and they are higher rated.

I don't know if they would fit your set-up, someone on here will advise.

Brise are meant for race cars, I wouldn't fit one to an everyday car.

My car is a tarmac rally car, i just want a starter i can trust so if it stalls mid stage when its hot it starts easily.

The Nissan V6's have really nice, high powered starters on them, we've used 'em on Peugeot engines before, you'd need to to a fair bit of fabrication to get one to fit the standard bellhousing I think though.

Iv got the brise on mine i had a small problem at first but now the pinion has been changed its spot on (they do a number of options) and starts my race engine with a small battery with no bother what so ever! Its also very light weight.

powerlite do one as well but it only fit the xu9 not the xu10.

I would say definately. I had hot-start problems on my old 8v until I went to a shortened cable run and a high-torque starter, and boy did it whizz over afterwards. I later added a proper dry race battery and I no longer worry about starting in an emergency or after a stall on stage :)

Check your earths are good first but if you definately have trouble turning it over due to high compression/etc, then they're good little bits of kit

As i said above the powerlite dont fit the xu10 as the block is different. I tryed one of these first before getting a brise as you say its alot cheaper.

The standard 306 diesel motors tend to be Mitsubishi ones, smaller than the GTi, mine has bean realiable for me.
