Won't Start

Recommended Posts

After fitting my replacement 1.9 engine I've had it running a couple of times, but now it just won't start at all, doesn't even fire.

Fuel - checked - it has fuel

Air - checked - it has air

spark - checked - it's sparking

Any ideas please?

Well the timing should be the same as on the old engine - I put a mark on the dizzy to line up with the mark on the end of the head. And it has run it just won't now...

When you say it has run - do you mean more than a couple of minutes at a time, or run properly? if the former check the connections on the AFM and the blue ECU temp. sender. Especially check that the female ends have not pushed out of the multiplugs. If it's either of these your sparkplugs will need a damn good clean before she'll start.

No, it's not run for more than a couple of minutes at a time. the idle is very poor until it's warmed up (as with the old engine).

Just pulled the plugs (again) and they were soaked in petrol and they've turned black. They still spark when out of the engine.

The oil temp is showing max - but I think that may be a broken wire...

Does the ECU temp sender go through the brown multiplug? I checked that all connections were OK across there with a multimeter when I put the engine back
