Gti Engine Into A 1.4

Recommended Posts

Ive got a 1.4 (well 1360cc!) is it a easy job to put either a 1.6 or 1.9 gti engine in? or should I just get a Gti?

Thought it might be fun to have a std non Gti 2 door but with a Gti lump in it

I read about this when I was considering doing it to my xs, someone feel free to correct this if it is wrong, but I read that the inner wings of the GTi's were different due to the larger engine, and that you would need to basically swap the inner wings from a GTi, as the inner wings from a TU'd 205 were thinker and therefore the XU engine and gearbox won't fit properly (!??!?!?)

As I said please correct me if that is wrong, I read it somewhere on the net a while ago!!

the gti engine will go in, but i think the top mount on the inner wing needs modding and a gti subframe

but thats me being 95% sure

The engine will go in. But you need the upper engine mount from a gti and cut the other one out. Also the gear linkages need changing. It sounds difficult but its really not that hard. Did it myself on a 1.3 euro rallye.

Thats what I was looking for on ebay when I stuck a bid on this 205 and won it!!

Dont think Im going to bother with the gti engine, The 1.4 in this one is quite nippy, Quicker than I expected anyway!

'Jrod' - Still want 1.6 alloys and that drive shaft off you though!
