Unresponsive Steering

Recommended Posts

Gman

Hi,

It's been over 7 years since I had my last 205, so can't remember if this issue also applied to them.

Anyway, I have only been driving the car around the farm as it has no tax/MOT (16v conversion to go in first), but it seems that the car doesn't seem to turn very much even though I turn the wheel to 9 or 3 o'clock. The steering is also much heavier than I remember (this one has PS), so am I just used to newer cars or does this seem a little odd? In comparison to my clio, the 205 just doesn't turn no where near as much with the same lock.

Thanks

Graham

which Clio have you got? i've a Clio2 RS which has about a turn less than the (manual) 205 rack and has less of a turning circle as well. not sure if the number of turns on the PAS rack is different to the manual - ?

if it tracks up OK and still feels odd, might be worth disconnecting the lower U/J and checking that it's free

It's a 182 Trophy. I'll take a good look around once the engines out, but it sounds like I'm just too used to the smaller lock.

Many thanks

sounds that way. i think the 205's 3.8 turns and the 172/182, 2.7 turns. it's a slower rack in the 205, but has much more feel on the move IMO (although i've not driven a Trophy)
