No Priming Before Startup

Recommended Posts

Theo205

I noticed that for the past year the GTi wont prime when the key is turned to ignition position.

I think I used to hear the fuel pump doing a brief priming in the past.

AFAIK its the tacho relay that is responsible for priming. no?

How should it work? Should I hear priming every time the key is turned ?

Any info is appreciated

Thanks

Theo

In my experience some GTi's do, others don't. As long as the fuel pump kicks in as soon as you crank the engine I personally would not worry too much about it.

Thanks for your input sub205 but it is a Jetronic.

Could this lack of fuel priming the engine cause a problem with cold starts?I am expiriencing this and I know its not the SAD or TPS nor the injectors since they are brand new.

Becasue as I see it, after a couple of days the pressure in the fuel circuit could drop

so you would need the priming to set the pressure to normal levels again in order to cold start the engine...???

Is this valid?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Theo

I have the same problem in my '88 1.6, I just havent got round to sorting it yet. It used to prime when I first got the car, hasnt for well over a year now, and can take a while to 'catch' when cold starting. Ive also been told/read that the techy relay is responcible for priming, I just havent got round to getting one yet!

Let me know how get on :(

Mine's odd. It will prime until up to pressure on the first turn of the key. Other times, if i leave the key in first position it will keep going and I can hear the fuel returning to the tank! I guess the relays become worn out and stick on fail to operate properly.
