Blocking Dipstick Tube Hole

Recommended Posts

PVFCpug

Strange request but I have a problem in that the dipstick tube has come loose and rotates quite easily. It's a 1.9 alloy MI and I have the Pace kit fitted. Therefore the tube serves no purpose whatsoever, and was wondering if somene has an MI out of the car at the moment and can look for me to see what would be the best way to just block off the hole rather than having the tube fitted at all. Must be losing some pressure through this!

Hmm, I personally would weld it up, but I am sure there is a better fix for it.

Can you explain to me what 'the Pace kit' is? ?

its a Dry Sump kit.

You wont lose oil pressure from that being open but you will have the engine breathing through it instead of your catch tank, it's not a large hole, about 10mm or so, so something like a short caphead bolt chemical metaled into place would suffice.

Thanks for advice, you never know I could actually be losing some power due to the lack of vacuum that the Pace kit provides. :)

Actually found a site that supplies tapered silicon bungs, so have ordered a couple of sizes just to cover myself. If anyone want's any let me know as I have had to order min of ten of each size.......

is there enough room to tap it and wind a bolt in?

Bad idea imo, metal debris will get in the oil and that is no good.

Good point, I didnt even consider the engine was already built, probably because mines in bits :)

Take the sump off before you tap it? that would be logical.

Erm yes it does.

The oil has to drain somewhere and it drains into the sump and is then pumped away.
