i know a carburettor choke... but an ecu controller engine does not have an choke!?

whats the problem with your engine?

yeah if thats what it is called?

 

my terminology might not be right but even injection engine have a choke of some sort with extra fueling and ignition adjustment. not always both on earlier stuff though. basically my car seems to be coming on and off choke. did a drive with live mapping gear and the exhaust gear proved this

It's down the side of stat housing. Way it works is a bi-metallic strip heats up and closes off an aux air feed into inlet.

 

It takes 5-10 mins to close fully, then will only re-open when completely cold.

 

No way for it to open and close rapidly unless broken.

 

Could be an air leak instead? Take off air filter, block over end of the air intake with something hard and flat (Haynes manual ideal, plus it means you actually have a use for it!). If it doesn't stall, you got a leak.
