Water Pump Head Bolt Spacer

Recommended Posts

Andy F

Hi peeps

just putting my engine back together and remember people saying about the different spacer over the water pump. Just wanted to check its a normal spacer + another flat washer type spacer?

Did have a search but didbt find how the spacer was set up

Thanks

you should have a single spacer and one about double the singles size under the same headbolt, if that makes sense

how's that beam look, that you bought from me ? :(

Thanks for that. Looks like i have the right spacers then.

Beam is still wrapped in the workshop just waiting for the calipers to be rebuilt then it can go on.

Ill post some pictures on my project thread when its on

Miles

Not on the 16v's, they all use the same spacer

if you are not sure whether its right, just rotate the bolt in place by hand and see if theres enough space.

in my oppinion everyone who does not notice that the bolt is far to long is a total moron. ;-)

(dont take it personal, asking is ok, but people that break their block because of this picked the wrong job.)

i agree

from what experience i have, when headbolt is wound all the way down, there shoulodn't be too much more than about 5mm protruding through the block

Ah that explains it. As miles said 16v uses same spacers all round. I did think lookin at the head that where the spacer sits is less cut in the others.

I did wind it down before measure the protrusion just thought better safe than sorry

thanks

easy to say, and easy to check if the engine is out. It would be very easy to not spot it with the engine in the car. I've never done it but i can see how someone would
