What To Do To An Engine That Has Sat Out Of A Car For A While..

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

Am currently making my giant list of parts that is needed to make some progress with the 205 (its a depressing read ;))

Just wondering, what would you guys recommend changing on a low milage (20,000ish mile) Mi16 engine that has sat out of a car for say 12-14 months by the time it goes back in the car to be run for the first time. I have already got a cambelt and tensioner kit, and will get a rocker cover gasket, but are any other oil seals likely to have perished/suffered?

Would obviously like to change them now while its out of the car! :) It has had oil put though it and been turned over fairly regularly.

Cheers

Craig

To be honest, in my opinion 12 months isn't really an issue at all - especially if it's been periodically turned over :)

The only one I would do whilst it is out, is the flywheel end crank seal if you have the box off- only because it is a box out job if you do need to do it.

May aswell do water pump at same time and as said crank seals.

I suppose it would be better to do the waterpump now.. but even if its only done 20-25,000 miles? I guess it should be changed at the same time as the belt to be on the safe side.

If you changed it yourself 20k ago, and there is no play in it, or roughness, I would personally leave it alone.

sideways danny

chuck it in. fitted an xu5 that had been in a hedge for 18 months. It fired first turn of the key. And it was fast.

My Mi had been sat in a warehouse for 10 years, turned freely, did a belt change and it fired straight up. Running fine with good power and no leaks.
