Significance Of White Marks On Tb's

just cleaned my tb's ready for a lick of paint, and i found three white marks on one and two on the other one? what the reason for this? im sure the pair are from different cars and i have checked the splines and both are the same (29 one end and 32 the other).

 

also on one of the bars the splined part looks a little longer than the other bar?? both bars are the same thickness and length
