Gti Auto Ecu Different Than Standard 1.9gti Ecu?

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Ive just put a 1.9 gti manual engine in my gti automatic. I took it for its first proper drive yesterday and it was fine for a bit then went wierd. It didnt pick up properly and there was lots of flatspots and it ticks over for a bit but then dies. I rang up some tuining places and mechanics and they said it will be the ecu that is not right for the car? could this be correct, is the auto ecu different? also were the bloody hell is the ecu? lol

thankyou

leon

I expect the ECU would have a different map on it as the auto engine runs a lot lower compression then the manual engine. Quite likely to be your problem.

The ECU is to the right of the steering wheel in that little cubby hole in the dash, assuming its in the factory position still!

I've done this conversion and ran the new engine on the old ECU without any problems. It did struggle at the MOT on emissions though.

Swap the ECU, AFM and Dizzy to get the best from it, Or it won;t work too well

Becuase the Advance of the Dizzy, AFM is all wrong for the low compression engine, just like the 1.6 & 1.9 GTi use different ones
