What Are These Wires/connectors For ?

Recommended Posts

Silky

I got the car from Floodys with the dash alrerady out, I have been trying to piece it all back together recently and sort the wiring out behind it.

Couple of stumbling blocks though, mainly wiring and connectors on the drivers lower dash side which I haven't got a clue what they are for and where they are meant to go.

I could well have routed them slightly wrong so let me know if I have...I could also be very stupid and they could be obvious but let me know either way

First one is this, blue + yellow block connectors coming out where the clocks would go, they are quite chunky

Second, Yellow + brown connectors on yellow/green thin wiring, lower dash on drivers side, left hand side of the steering column

Third, right hand side of steering column, green/white/blue connectors to the centre of the picture, red/brown to the right and small green+yellow to top left. Again I have no idea what and where

Any help appreciated lads

the four big "chunky" ones belong to the clock unit and the smaller one is the rev counter wire. So in all you should have five wire blocks (at the top of my head) going to the back of the clocks. :D They only fit one way so should be easy to work out which is which. you should also have a smaller brown (2 or three wires think they are green) block which goes under the steering column trim to dim dash etc

First pic, blue and yellow connectors are for the clocks.

Second pic, yellow connector are all earth wires. they plug into a connector that is bolted onto the steering column. The brown connector is for the dimmer switch on the steering column cowling.

Third pic, green, white and blue connectors go to the clocks with the yellow and blue in the first pic. red and brown connectors go to the drivers door. Yellow connector are all earth wires as before should plug into a connector bolted to the dash.

Hope that helps a bit.

And you'll find that as you start to reassemble the dash, the gadgets they fit to will present themselves, and those connectors will really only reach and fit onto one thing, such as the dash light dimmer.

:D

Ade,

Ade,

That's brilliant, thanks very much mate.

When you say the red+brown go to the drivers door, what do you mean exactly ?

If you have leccy windows and central locking then these will be needed.

Yep I'm slowly finding that as it goes back together...is fun

Got leccy windows and central locking, just can't seem to find what they connect to

The wireing from the drivers door connects to those red and brown connectors.

They are probably hiding in the door then, I best take a look

Ade / Sarty,

Excellent help lads, got most of it plugged in tonight.

Still stuck with the red+brown small ones which you say are for the drivers door, they don't seem to be able to be pulled much closer to the door and can't see anything for them to connect to.

Also got a small square black connector around the back of the indicator stalk

There should be a wireing loom inside the drivers door that comes out the door between the door hinges, through a rubber sleeve and into the car. This loom should be long enough to connect to both those red and brown connectors that are on the main loom in the car.
