Clutch Slipping

Recommended Posts

Jose

Hi all,

I have just bought my first 1.9, on the way home the clutch was slipping in all gears, any power and it would just rev up, the guy i bought it from said all was needed was to adjust the cable, which i havent tried yet, but is this the case? Or will it be a new clutch needed (just done the clutch in my GTi6 and its not too hard)

Its off the road at the moment so i cant drive it to test it so was hoping somone might have an idea if all i need to do is play with the cable?

Thanks

Jose

The cable would have to be very badly mis-adjusted for it to slip the clutch in my opinion, so it's more likely that the clutch is goosed I'd say. No harm in loosening off the clutch cable a bit to see if it fixes the issue, but I wouldn't get your hopes up - adjustment is via the nuts at the gearbox end.

Clutch swap is easier than on a 306 GTi-6 in my experience too, so if you've done the 306 one, you'll get on just fine with the 205 one
