Hi

I am about to embark on a change of box as my set-up has a synchro problem coming down the box form 3rd to 2nd. I have a 1.9MI with obviously an MI flywheel and clutch. I have a 1.6BE1 at present but am unable to acquire a known good one with a CPS hole in it. (Plenty without hole)!

So came to the decision as fellow 205 Gti driver has good condition be3 1.6, to swop to this one. Now having searched through all threads it would appear this is not going to cause too many probs other than obviously replacing driveshaft seals, and removing collar on gearstick, oh and me simply remembering that reverse is right and down  .

given that they are both 1.6 boxes am I correct in thinking the clutch release is the same or am I going to discover horror's when it comes to fitting it? Do I need a differing clutch cable at all?

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, I did look but perhaps I am too thick to see it.

Cheers

You'll need a BE3 release bearing as the arm is different. Your current clutch cable will be fine... When I used a BE3 box I left the collar on the gearstick. Might also be wise to replace the bushes on the release arm on the gearbox, It can cause the clutch pedal to be stiff if they are worn.

You can fit the BE1 clutch arm on the BE3 box, But you'll find the clutch so much more progressive and lighter on the BE3 you'll never go back

I would change the shaft bush's first as they are only a few quid the pair or you can end up with a heavy clutch again due to rust build up

make sure you get the right bushes, there's yellow and white. Fit the wrong ones and the bearing will last 5 mins!
