Throttle Position Switch

Recommended Posts

Hello

I was thinking tonight about getting my paws on the correct plug that connects to the throttle position switch on R1 carbs (mikuni) rather than having three terminal connectors wobbling about inside the TPS.

Has anyone gotten one of these or is there a plug that you know of that will fit ?

I am sure you will know what I am on about.

This mite sound like a bodge, but why dont you go to a motorbike breaker and cut the connector end off an r1 with a good length of lead and get busy with the soldering iron?

I tried to do this (getting the right plug), but I failed.

My solution was putting the correct size female spade connectors on the wires, pinching them up a bit (so they were a tight push fit) and then filling the void with black silicon to cocoon them in there. They cannot come off.

The wires themselves were 'pigtails', i.e. about 18inches of fly lead to which I attached an aftermarket 3-pin, waterproof connector so I can unplug the bodies/carbs if necessary. Basically I moved the connector.

Oooooh

Well, update time, Lord Sarty, my original plan was to do as you suggest, but I was not sure on it.

So today as I went to work, I took off the TPS as part of the motor group I work for has a VERY large bike department.

Anyway, it did not get that far as I gve it to one of the Mechanics in the landrover dealership and he sent the'boy' off to the misc cupboard, he spent half the day trying different plugs.

Turs out there is a fantastic plug on the engine loom for a Disco 2.

I will get better info later, but I have two of them and they fit like a glove :)

By the way, the plugs have 11349 stamped on them.

if you'd taken the time to read his sig you'd notice it was sold some time ago

would you not think it would be better to pm the user on such an old thread?

He is probably subscribed being the OP. The answer would be best posted in a public forum, not in private. Something people don't realise is people search threads for answers to questions before they ask them, this is forum etiquette. It would be nice if people, after started a thread and solving their problems posted back so others could also benefit from things learned.
