Nice, having a full rebuild judging by the pics? Should be a nice reliable lump for years to come once its dropped in.

Surprisingly it hasn't needed much work. Valves had already been replaced, pistons and rings are in remarkable condition, crank had a polish only.

Miles has been quite astonished how lucky I have been with the engine!

Think its just had a cleanup and some new 3 angle valve seats, but I guess Miles will confirm when he sees this.

Hopefully a sound basis for some throttle bodies when funds allow :)

Good stuff! As Miles has said you have been lucky. Quite alot of these '6 lumps seem to be in far worse condition than a far higher mileage MI from what ive seen. I was equally lucky with mine. All it takes is a bit of bore wear though and its game over for the block, which is a right kick in the nuts...

Miles mentioned this as a reason why he didn't get the bores honed, what is the actual issue then? The don't take oversize pistons?

There's a big hole under the bonnet

Just some rust to treat under the servo as normal ish

Bad picture of the head (Camera Phones)

Just need to check out the steering arm's for the rack now ;)

You can buy oversize piston's for these engine's no problem's, They do on some suffer from bore wear to a degree honing them makes them U/S, Hate to think what my 257,000 engine is like

Wow I cant believe how good that engine bay looks now the engine is out ;)

I may (did) overpay for the car, but I think the condition makes it worthwhile, as repairing loads of tinworm would have been much more expensive.

A sound basis for the upgrade.

Couple more pic's of updates,

As you can see under the servo is getting a very common place for rust due to the location and seaping brake fluid over the year's, This must be delt with or as it's very thin here can hole in no time at all and is a MOT failure too.

Rack is all complete, Xsara VTS with 205 connecting arm's and new boot

Engine is almost complete, Finished off the engine mount today too.
