S16.......help!

Recommended Posts

Guest petrie82

Hi all im looking for some help!!!

I've just fitted an s16 and i seem to be getting water into the oil, a friend thinks its just conensation but im not sure.

I changed the head gasket and gave everthing a good clean before fitting, however did not get the head skimmed.

I gave it an engine flush thinking it could of being water left in an oil pipe from when i cleaned the engine or something like that, and i also by-passed the oil cooler as i heard these sometimes fail.

But after running with the new oil and putting rad weld in the water the problem seems to be back. The thing that is confusing me is it runs fine with no smoke and dose not over heat, but within minutes there's a blob of milky goo at the bottom of the dip-stick and around the oil filler cap. You can also hear a garguling sound coming from the filler cap.

Any help would be gratfully appreciated

Cheers Michael

In the breathers is not of major concern IMO, but you mentioned a gurgling sound (which means air as well!) and mayo on the dip stick. Something is not right.

It's not something which can be solved with anything less than engine out and inspection in my opinion. Something wasn't done quite right.

When you said/say it is running fine, my gut instinct tells me that will only be the case for so long, before something goes pop.

When its damp and cold i get the same on mine.

Particualy if im only doing short runs to and from work.

A good blast out clears it.

Has being that way for 3years.

Ive got a head to rebuild and put on it but as im changing the car i wont be needing it

A compression test wouldn't hurt. If the numbers are bad, that tells the right story... although good numbers aren't quite as conclusive, so I'm led to believe.

Yeah gave it a compression test and all the numbers were the same and seemed to be good....i think!!! They were all around 11 bar.

I think 160 psi is a bit low for these engines, Im sure they need to be arround 190.
