Are Cti And Gti Wishbones The Same?

Recommended Posts

Morning everyone

Just wondering if someone can quickly answer this question?

Are the wishbones on a CTI the same as a GTI. I would go and look at the car but i can't as its 100's of miles away at the mo.

From memory the rubber bit which surrounds the ball joint was ripped. Would this mean getting new wishbones? Was planning on getting new brushes from peugeot or motorquip, but thought i should check about ball joint first incase i need to relace the whole unit.

Thanks

Not if it is a standard CTi, these do not use the GTi style arm, instead they use the base model type arm which is then located with the anti roll bar. However it is an easy and quite popular conversion to swap them to the GTi arms, so really you need to double check to be sure.

Thanks Tom

Just had a search on Flee bay to check for parts and saw a CTI subframe on there. Then realised i have some pictures on my phone of the car and can just make out the subframe. Looks to be a Standard CTI frame. So if i wasnted to use GTI wishbones what would i need to do the conversion apart from getting GTI wishbones?

Thanks

You would need to convert it to using the GTI subframe, complete with anti roll bar etc etc. You may also need to swap the struts to GTI ones as these have the tab on them for the drop links, the CTI ones won't have this if they are standard. All the parts will bolt straight on, what you really need is to find someone breaking a GTI so you can get everything you need. As in your signature, if you are changing to an Mi16 engine it probably is a good idea to swap to GTI running gear.

Ah thought you might say that. Bummer.

I've got some new coilovers coming so struts are storted. Plus i've got 1.9 hubs, shafts and brakes.

So a GTI subframe, anti roll bar and wishbones.

Cool thanks for the info Tom

Don't forget steering rack, I'm not sure if they are different or not, one of the skip boys can tell you though I am sure.

I think it is i bought a power steering rack ages ago for the car and it fitted on my CTI frame.

Think it originally came from a GTI so should be ok

The steering rack is fine, when I did an MI16 and GTI subframe conversion to a CTI the steering rack, hubs and driveshafts were the only CTI bits I kept.
