If you want to stick to a standard box you have answerd your own question. . Theres different variations using different final drives etc,

best do a search if you want to go down that route..

1.9 cluster with 1.6 final drive would be "best" but a 1.6 box can do a similar job for less money.

I'm likely to have the above forsale shortly rebuild 2000miles ago with rose jointed quick shift and extended gearstick, big improvement for any track car.

Out of interest why use a 1.9 with a 1.6 final drive? What are the advantages?

first and second closer together compared to 1.6 box.

So first and second is closer in a 1.9 than a 1.6 box. But then the rest of the gears are closer in the 1.6 or what? Why not just use the whole 1.9 gearbox?

No but i will when we start. I race 2 different types of racing - one of them is what i believe you call autocross where we start on a line. So for me the first and second gear are the most important ones

In the Danish Endurance Championship which is regular track racing i use a 1.6 gearbox and it works well. But i understand the reason for using the combo that James mentioned now.

The rest of the gears are exactly the same, its the final drive multiplier that is different.
