I have a 205 road/track car with a gti6 engine.

I currently have avo coilovers however they have gone a bit rusty from standing and i never was 100% happy with the ride as it felt a bit crashy.

Just wondering what peoples opinions on gaz coilovers was or should i look for another manufacter..

could get them rebuilt to suit a slightly higher spring rate to cope with the gti6 and the usage of the car.

Despite what many others may say to the contrary, I've used Spax RSX on the front of my car since 2004, and found them to have been very good. However, after 3 years on road and 2 race seasons the fronts i'm finding are now too soft. They were an excellent compromise. Regrettably Spax don't do a competition macpherson strut so i'll have to go to another manufacturer [prob. Koni]. The rears for the RSX from Spax were also good for the road and occassional track day. However for the track i'd say you'd need the rears wound up to their hardest setting. And wound to the middle for normal road driving. They are a very small bore shock. If I had a std road car and was doing the occasional road day I would buy them again. For the rears I have TrackSpax Double Adjustable shocks. And they are awesome. I remember talking with a chap from X-Sport at Oulton Park earlier in the year [i think he was Paul], a really nice chap, who said he'd only use Bilstein on the 205. But I did say to him i've tried them on the rear, seen the light and would rather pay £350 per shock and use the TrakSpax DA because I have found them to be much better on the track. As for a compromise for road and track though... I'd definitely agree the Bilstein is the best compromise - so long as you don't mind a rather firm ride. I hope this helps.

I think you'll find AVO are quite cheap for rebuilds etc.

I'm nearly in the process of getting mine rebuilt, about £160 for seals, rods and a few other bits

Gaz are also excellent for shock rebuilds, highly reccomended and good value too.

Wouldn't touch GAZ, just convert some Bilstein Group N dampers to run 2.25" springs.
