Which Rear Bottom Engine Mount?

Recommended Posts

pablo

There is a fair bit of play in my bottom engine mount and I was going to replace it. Its been extended using two arms which I presume is to clear the master cylinder when the 406 engine was fitted.

Is there a better mount I can get which is already extended? Or is this setup ok? Its a fairly big job to replace it (shafts out, gbox oil changed etc) so Id like to do it right. Id also like a good strong upgraded one as the car will be tracked.

Seen that Spoox do one but wondering if its the best approach. Just replacing the bush would be the cheapest option I guess.

Thanks all

-Paul

It sounds like all you need to do is replace the bush in the casting, your options are either hard rubber (group 'N') or solid. I would only suggest solid if its a completely dedicated track car, if you use it on the road then a hard rubber one will be sufficient IMO.

If you do endup going for a solid rubber one then let me know as I have a spare brand new one.

hard rubber may be best then as Id like to run it on the road a fair bit too.

Do any of the housings come pre-extended? Meaning I can remove the little legs? Seems a bit ghetto. cheers.

It should be your 'fork' bit that has been extended which won't make any difference to the mount itself. If you mean yours just looks like a bodge then you could ask one of the decent welders on here to make you a neater looking one? Try ThirdTimeLucky or Welshpug.

TBH I think its fine, but if there was an all on one solution Id take it instead. The spoox item says:

"These mounts are extremely popular for the Mi16 conversion when the master cylinder is close to the rocker cover, eliminating the contact which can occur on standard mounts. "

But on re-reading I think that means it limits travel, rather than extending the bush. In which case there is no mileage in replacing the entire mount, just the bush.

ps - Im in NI so not local to anyone

Yes they are on about eliminating movement (rocking of the engine) because of the harder rubber, nothing to do with their mount being extended at all. All you need by the sounds of it is a hard rubber mount which you will need to get pressed into your casting by your local garage, unless you have a bench press yourself...

If you do go ahead and change it I have a brand new hard rubber (one of those group 'n' jobbies) which I no longer need
