Mi16 Oil Cooler

I´m fitting my oil cooler from my 1.9 gti engine onto my mi16 engine.

 

Will the oil cooler work no matter how I fit the sandwich plate. where shall the exit holes in the sandwich plate point.

Right now the exit holes are pointing directly to the ground and I´m suspecting that, that position is restricting oil flow through the oil cooler. Am I chasing a gost? From the plate I can´t see why the position should matter!???
