Thar She Blows!

hi, had a problem with my mi16 not starting, it would tick over for 5 seconds then cut out and sound like it was running on two cylinders. its running on weber 45s and has a stage 3 head. here's what i did to see if i could find the problem.

check fuel- fueling side of things is ok

check for spark- got shocked 4 times so thats ok.

drain petrol tank to get rid of old fuel- new fuel made no difference.

dry off all plugs incase of fludding- the plug closest to the cambelt pulled some threds out but still sempt to be ok when tightend up. all plugs dry'd but made no difference.

charge battery- still didnt work.

tryed to turn it over again and it blew out the plug which had striped some threads, left a nice nipple in my bonnet :)

any ideas people? also does anyone know the cost of sorting out the threads in the plug hole?

many thanks

steven

you will have to helicoil the hole.

Are you running with the 16v management or the 8v?

I had the same problem and I'm very sorry to hear this. Mine went when driving.

But all is not lost, as, if you find the right person who uses a lot of grease to catch the swarf, this can even be rectified with the engine still in the car by heli-coiling as Dan said.

Perhaps £80 IIRC, but back on the road in a jiffy with no f*cking about with head off and new cambelts....unless you really want to.
