Replacing Driveshaft Oil Seals

Recommended Posts

Going to replace my driveshaft oil seals this afternoon, when putting the new ones in do I need to copper grease them or anything like that as I put them in, or do I just clean up the inside area and pop them in as they are ?

Just clean up the area and use a bit of 'box oil on them

Another question on this.

The old seals had like a white plastic round bit on the outside of the seal with round sort of teeth on it (know what I mean ?!)

The new seals don't have these white plastic bits, is that ok or should I transfer them across ?

transfer them across if you can, they help protect the edge of the seal when your inserting the driveshafts so that the splined part doesn't gouge the lip if you're a bit heavy handed trying to manoeuvre them in

No, they're fine without, they're just a different style of seal, the OE ones have the castlated plastic ring on just as a protector for when you re-fit the shafts.

Just fit the new seals with a millimetre or so protruding as normal, as long as they're square they should be fine.
