Xu10 Turbo Gear L-bracket Mod Clearance Solution?

Recommended Posts

Anton green

Hello all, I'm thinking of cutting a ball off the gear selector L-bracket and mounting some kind of ball on the underside, or slightly nearer the pivot to create the neccessary clearance to allow me to change gear. The ball will fit on at the moment, but not with enough clearance to allow a gear change..

What have YOU done to work around the space you have available to allow you to change gears without issue?

Remove the bolt with the spacer on from the support bracket that sits underneath the turbo on the exhaust housing side, discard the spacer, trim the bolt down a bit and refit it.

Then just simply alter the angle of the the gear selector "L" bracket, done 4 like this now works perfectly every time.

:)

From what ive read it involves moving the 'ball' from the front to the back of the bracket and then straightening out the bracket a bit :)

No, moving the ball causes the selector rods to impact on each other. I tried that on mine and found it didn't work. Bending the L bracket is the way to do it

It does! But you can bend the selector rod simply :)

Sam did you have to bend the rod as well? putting the ball joint upside down meant the 2 rods were pressing against each other and wouldn't let me select gears when i tried it on mine.

Yeh I put the ball joint underneath and bent the longer rod like this \_/ so it didn't clash.

Does this mean you're making some progress Anton?

Sure does. If the sun is shining I shall be straightening an L bracket and possibly bending rods in the morrow! :)

I just bent the bracket on mine, couple of cracks with a hammer and done. Moving the ball to the other side would have fouled on my car too.
