Just wondering what exhausts people are using on GTI6 engined cars?

Mine was fine with the 8v, but makes far too much noise with this engine.

What are you lot using?

Im using a maniflow manifold with magnex center and rear, its not load at all, usually around 95db on track days, I cant hear it over the carbs anyway

For a standard engine the standard phase II 2 piece system is fine, not too loud at all either.

I'm not sure if 306 items will fit, but if you're after the Magnex centre and rear I may be able to help you just for postage/beer tokens.

This is only a suggestion, but Nick9One1 is in Grimsby and has my 306GTI6 that we just took these items off of. Not sure of the condition or if he's binned them, but they're peanuts off me/us if you want them.

Custom Powerflow from manifold back - 2 1/4 inch I think - two box system with a smallish tailpipe (2"ish). Very pleased with it, quiet when cruising on m-way, nice and fruity when floored :) Cost a fair bit but am v pleased with the result.

Powerflow!? No offence but recommending a Powerflow system to someone is like recommending bowel cancer. They're cheap, but my god they're awful!

Well that remains to be seen I suppose, it hasn't fallen off yet! But they did say it comes with a "life time" guarantee - whatever that means in practice. I can't really comment on the quality of it as I have little frame of reference, however I can say that it does exactly what I wanted in terms of noise/refinement when driving. I was worried about ending up with one that was too loud (or even too quiet) having been in other cars with aftermarket exhausts and found them far too boomy when cruising...but this one seems spot on :)

Just out of interest, what would be awful about it? The build quality or do you mean it would affect the performance of the car or something?

Fair enough, I don't mean to sound harsh or snobby.. but living near Basingstoke (their HQ I think) I've seen some shocking things come from them. They weld stainless with mild steel wire FFS! :)

Edit:

Just the build quality thing, they really aren't very well put together!

Well, as you know, I don't know much about welding :) , I guess I'll wait and see on that front! Although I suppose some of it depends on the person actually building the exhaust at whichever outlet you use.

I can second this, my laser green 205 has a poweflow on it, it looks ok until you notice the weldings gone all rusty and looks like its gonna flake off any second!

On my friends honda civic they welded the flanges on the entire system so even his cat is welded on. One way of making sure it does'nt leak!

It's a Franchise I think so everyone you visit will get different results and quality, how they can say it will improve things is beyond me as there is no expertise behind it or any proven result’s, OK for the chav who’s after a 6” quad tail pipe from there Polo etc

But on mine I tend to use a 2 1/4" system (My own) if possible as this give's the best results for a std ish engine, Any more than 200bhp I run 2 1/2 which means a new D/P if on the std manifold

I'm on an 1 7/8" straight through group N and it's fine tbh. I can't compare it to much else but I can't see it being restrictive tbh. Sounds nice and sweet, not too loud and does the job when you put your foot down.

Out of interest Miles, on the 2 1/2" system, which downpipe would you use?

I can because the later 205 8 valve exhaust is larger, let alone mentioning the 306 systems, must have been a reason for it !

I had an earlier style (smaller) centre section on mine first off. The car went noticeably better once i changed to the later syle ph2 centre section.

It's a D/P I get made up, Nothing OE is large enough, Thankfully as there's no centre split in them it's quite easy

Also worth mentioning im running a 2.5in stainless downpipe on my system too. :)

Mei, obviously the phase 2 is larger, but this exhaust certainly made good power for Cameron on his previous engine build, so I can't see where I'm going to run into to any problems.

If i'm going to notice a difference sticking a STD phase 2 exhaust, though, I will give it a shot

I'm fairly certain I've got the old Ph2 setup in my Dads garage, Due to the difference in diameter would this not impair the performance? What size is the standard 306 pipe?

I've also got a stainless scorpion system floating about somewhere, not sure what this would be like...

I'm not a fan of loud exhausts, a nice rasp when getting to the top of the rev range is nice, but a constant monotone drone is not. (Like I have at the moment!)

Unfortunately most aftermarket exhausts have a chavy style large bore tail pipe as well, another thing I'm not a fan of!

I'm currently running a Magnex system which i must admit does feel like it's restricting the engine, especially at the top-end.

Looking to get a 2 1/4" system from the manifold made up at somewhere like longlife or pipewerx.

The early systems do make the engine seem less powerful having done a few, It would be good for a back to back of the 4 different types

But at the very least I would say you need is a 2" system without fail

I cut and shut the standard exhaust and stuck it on yesterday, not taken if for a proper spin yet, but it sounds better!

Cant seem to get it to seal to the 6 manifold properly, seems to be blowing slightly...

Might go and have a play today!
