Recommended Posts

Guest 205dangti

i have just swap my 1.9 8v for another as the bottom end went. the car starts fine but the battery light is on when there are no keys in the car. it does go off when the keys are turned or the engine is runnin. i dont want it to ruin my battery. any ideas wot it could be. someone said earth but could it be the alternator? starting to get abit worried as everything looks good but engine came out of a right off could that affect anything

My 306 GTI6 just did this, and an alternator swap fixed it.

It's possible that it's a diode in the rectifier/diode pack on the alternator that's failed. You may be able to replace just that, but otherwise I think you'll find an alternator swap will solve this issue.

Sounds like its either a dodgy earth or perhaps the alternator or starter motor wires are shorting out somewhere?
