Clutch Release Arm Be3

Recommended Posts

Silky

I'm about to fit the BE3 gearbox back onto the 1.9 engine, whilst the BE3 gearbox is out I have decided to replace the clutch release arm bushes and driveshaft oil seals.

How do you get the lever on the top off ? It seems to have a pin in it, rounded head at one end and threaded at the other.

I don't want to damage anything but can't work out what to do with it....any ideas or suggestions on how this is done ?

Cheers

Michael

The thread on pin holding the clutch arm on is M7 but afaik its pretty rare they come out with a suitable nut etc used as a puller.

I think Miles drills them out but however you get them out they can't be reused imo.

I think the dealers had a tool that fitted in a slide hammer to pull the pin out.

No, you can only get to one side of it which has the thread on & you can't drive it right through the clutch pedal lever because of the position on the casing.

I normally just cut the shaft off and replace it with a new one now, You'll find that most shafts have worn with rust and age anyway, Only about £55.00 from Pug

As above best off cutting it off and replacing the shaft, thats what i've done in the past.

Make sure the cross-shaft's new bushes are put in the right way round. A friend had his BE3 rebuilt and the bushes were inserted incorrectly, which meant that the release bearing wasn't concentric with the input shaft. Result: clutch judder and, several thousand miles later, a terrible grinding noise as the fingers on the diaphragm spring were ground away to nothing and the broken ends snagged on the release bearing.

I couldn't work out how it came off, so I just did the same as miles and cut it off
