When oil is cold then gears goes very well but if its going warmer its little harder to change gears? I found that lots of YOU using original oil but what can be best??

anything 75w80 really, stuff specified by peugeot tends to have more suitable additives to suit the material of the synchros, (i.e Total, Shell and Esso)

I always found the stuff from the dealers seemed better than the same grade (75/80) from Halfords. It was also cheaper, not sure if it still is.

I'm using Castrol drive-line oil at the minute and it seems to be good, might try the peugeot stuff next time I drop the gearbox oil on the garage floor by accident :D

i used Total BV 75/80 in mine (think it's what the dealers keep) and found it fine. my first gearbox lasted 100k, and the second one probably 180k (already had about 70k on it)

not sure if the box is sensitive to the different specs you get in gear oils, but would have thought 75/80 GL4 or GL5 would be good. does anyone know what spec the Total BV is? (GL4 or GL5, as it doesn't say on the bottle)

certainly is Total the flavour of the past few years with PSA, they'll sell you 2 litres for £11.03.

My local PSA specialist stocks it in bulk (205 L drums) £4 a litre I think he charged me when I took a clean 5L can round there :D

Reading this post, if you could help me.

I want to change the oil on my 205 gti 1.9 1993 gearbox. I don't know where the fill plug & the draing plug are. If anybody has pictures it would be great. I heard you can drain the gearbox and then, use the breather to pour the oil in it. Anybody has pictures of the breather?

It's kind of urgent! Thanks

The drain plug (circled green) is on the back of the diff at the very lowest point.

The fill plug/breather (circled red) is on the top.

Also, if you look at the end cover of the gearbox through the wheel arch then one of the bolts (blue arrow) will be bigger then the others. When you refill the gearbox take this bolt out and refill with oil until it dribbles out of this hole. That way you'll know the level is right.
