Harness Issues

Recommended Posts

Searched for this but cant find anything on it....... Have fitted a 10 point OMP roll cage. Just started mounting the seats etc and noticed that if we bought 4 point harnesses, the harnesses wouldnt line up with the harness bars i.e the cage is too narrow to fit them on to a harness bar without twisting them out of line if we welded one in. Has anyone else had problems with this? Any suggestions what to do? Only thing we can think of is to just put a 3 point harness in but I think you can only get these in 2 inch and are they as good as a 4 or 5 point harness?

I had harness bars put into my cage,it is a bit narrow but still works ok.I have seen some with a longer bar put in with one part of the harness outside the cage too,so you could do it that way.

Exactly the same in my 309 and I have been wondering what to do-do you have a pic of your seat rails to alync?

That will invalidate the FIA approval though.

Is that really true-I am a qualified welder does that make any difference?-Do they need test pieces to show how its been done?

If I dont have FIA approval does that mean I can not hillclimb locally?

cheers

Well here in Ireland the scrutineers are alowing bars to be put into the cage for harness as long as there is a good job done. The harness have to be at the right angle for using with the HANS.

@fast_eddie i dont really have pics of the seat rails only these,Seat, seat

It does invalidate FIA approval tho, whether they will let you run I've no idea as I've never modified a cage.

Cheers for the replies!

We will be using the car as a weekend toy and doing a few track days in it so would what alync406 has done be acceptable, comfortable and safe? It doesnt need to be FIA approved for track days does it? What would the MOT man say?

Cheers

Ye it does invalidate the FIA approval but as long as you use the right bars and the welding is done properly you should'nt have a problem really. Some people just made up brackets to go around the cage either,if you wanted to do it that way. It is alot safer to have the harness mounted on the cage than on the floor of the car.
